So you’re performing with us and have some questions?

No worries! We have you covered.

What performance event is right for me?

Eclectic Music Recitals are our semi-formal performance opportunities best for acoustic musicians. Perfect for celebrating the musical accomplishments of the semester or year, our recitals are a favorite of parents and grandparents! Please note we cannot accommodate amplified instruments or drum kit at recitals, due to acoustic limitations.

The Red Light Café Showcases are our cool, open-mic style performances. RLC Showcases are perfect for amplified performers playing contemporary music and are a huge hit with friends and family!

EM students are encouraged to play at both Recitals and Showcases each year if they can! Learn more about Recitals vs. Showcases on our Performance Opportunities page.

How long do I get to play?

At Recitals, each performer will have a 2-5 minute performance spot. We recommend performers play one full length piece, or two shorter pieces.

At RLC Showcases, each performer can have a short set up to 5-10 minutes. Performers can play one to three full-length pieces in their set.

For both performances, music should be memorized!

What should I wear?

Dressy casual or semi-formal attire is suggested for Recitals. Bonus points for something that makes you feel both comfortable and confident on stage!

Cool, casual attire is recommended for RLC Showcases. We’re going to be jamming to pop, jazz, rock and contemporary styles, so show up as the cool cat (or kitten) you are!

When are performances?

We host Recitals twice a year, once in the fall/winter and once in spring. These are typically hosted on Saturday and/or Sunday afternoons.

Red Light Showcases take place seasonally, and are usually hosted on Saturday or Sunday afternoons.

Other special events and performance opportunities may pop up during the year. We’ll always keep you posted!
