Our program leaders are professional music educators who have plenty of experience working with groups of children. In addition to our versatile permanent staff, we have camp staff and assistants as needed in order to give kids the best possible experience. Generally, the ratio of adults to children is about 1:8, not including the additional program staff and assistants.
Do I need to buy an instrument in order for my child to participate?
No, we will have instruments for your child to use at the studio. This provides the opportunity for your child to experiment with different instruments without needing to buy them.
Can my child bring Their instrument if we have one?
Sure! We encourage campers to bring their own instruments.
What ages are the PROGRAMS for?
Our camps are for ages five to about twelve. Campers are mixed and matched and subdivided into smaller musical groups as necessary based on age, musical ability, and interests.
We are sensitive to the social and emotional needs of campers. We keep our eyes on the rosters for each day and we will let you know if your child might end up being an outlier in terms of age or ability. We'll offer as much notice as we can so that you can make other arrangements.
My child is a teenager. Can he or she still attend camp?
Adolescents can participate as Counselors in Training, learning leadership skills as well as musical skills from the camp leaders. They will receive special attention and mentorship from our teaching staff. If you have an interested student, please shoot us an email at makemusic@eclecticmusicatlanta.com
My child isn’t five yet. Do you have a program for him or her?
We have one dedicated camp week for our youngest musicians: Block Party. Looking for more? We would love to see them for Playground lessons! Playground lessons are 30 minute private lessons that teach the foundations of music using a variety of instruments and folk songs. You can learn all about our private lessons here.
My child wants to attend but has no experience/some experience/a lot of experience. Will it still be fun?
Yes! Our programs are set up to accommodate a variety of different experience levels. No matter your child’s musical history, they’re sure to learn new things and have a great time. Our teachers and leaders are experts at building on a child's strengths and incorporating a wide range of skills into the performances. When you sign up, you will have the opportunity to tell us all about your child's unique skill set and interests. We will keep these interests in mind wherever possible.
Can my child attend for multiple weeks? Is it the same every day or week?
Each week of camp is a completely unique experience and even repeated camp themes offer a new musical experience each week. For instance, campers may play different songs in the end of the week performance, learn about a different aspect of music theory, experience new musical games or build on instrumental skills acquired in previous weeks. Bonus points: they’ll certainly make new friends each time around!
What if my child wants to learn a particular instrument?
We make things easier on kids' attention spans by integrating instrumental instruction into the experience of learning to play as part of an ensemble. In the process, kids will learn to recognize and copy rhythmic and melodic patterns, in addition to learning some basic skills on the instrument. It's a less-is-more approach to a particular instrument, but a more comprehensive strategy for encouraging your child's musicianship. If you would like more in-depth study on a particular instrument, private lessons are a great choice!
